Discussions will be held this coming Sunday to pass a new decision regarding player salary caps.
According to information obtained by Hasset Sport, the Ethiopian Premier League Share Company has scheduled a meeting with clubs for next Sunday, Hamle 19, 2018 [July 26, 2026], to discuss either increasing the players’ salary cap or removing the limit entirely. Initially, the rule was implemented requiring clubs to proportionally manage player payments, setting an annual club budget of 56 million birr, which was later revised to 70 million birr. However, clubs faced gaps in implementing this regulation. Although a financial audit committee was established to penalize clubs failing to comply, the share company penalized only some while remaining silent on others, which reportedly disappointed many.
To resolve this issue once and for all, the share company had planned to summon Premier League clubs last Sunday, Hamle 12, to discuss whether the financial limit should be lifted or increased. However, the date was postponed by one week due to the Ethiopian Football Federation president, Mr. Esayas Jira, traveling to the United States for the World Cup finals.
